Can beginners dive in Gili Air?
Yes — it's arguably the best of the three Gilis to learn in. Most sites have shallow reefs, calm currents and good visibility. Try Scuba and Open Water students often see turtles on day one.
Will I see turtles?
Very likely. Green and hawksbill turtles are seen on most dives at Turtle Heaven, Hans Reef and Sunset Reef. Nothing in the ocean is guaranteed, but with two or three dives your odds are very high.
What's special about Hans Reef?
It's Gili Air's signature site for macro life: frogfish, nudibranchs and ghost pipefish, on a shallow reef with gentle currents — also one of the best turtle sites on this side of the islands.
How is Gili Air different from Gili Trawangan?
Underwater, very similar — both share several dive sites and the same water conditions. Above water, Gili Air is quieter, more laid-back, with smaller dive groups. We run separate centres on both islands.
