What is the Open Water course?
An Open Water scuba diving course is a basic training program designed for individuals interested in learning to dive safely and independently. It is one of the most popular and widely recognized scuba diving courses worldwide, and you will have the opportunity to complete it entirely in Tenerife, guided by accredited professionals and in the best environment on the island.
Features of the DPM Diving Open Water Course
The Open Water course introduces you to the fundamental concepts of diving, including the physics and physiology of diving, necessary equipment, and safety techniques.
Confined Water Sessions
These are practical sessions in a pool or calm waters where you will practice essential skills, such as assembling and disassembling equipment, underwater breathing, and managing common issues.
The course includes theoretical classes where you will learn about diving principles, safety rules, dive planning, and risk management. This is typically conducted through study manuals, videos, and discussions with a dive instructor.
Open Water Dives
An important part of the Open Water course involves open water dives, where you will apply what you have learned in real diving conditions. Typically, you will complete at least four open water dives under the supervision of an instructor.

Steps to Become a Certified Diver
The duration of the course is three days, with a combination of classroom study, pool practice, and open water diving experiences.
At the end of the course, you will need to pass a theoretical exam to demonstrate your understanding of the concepts you have learned. After that, you will gain international and lifelong recognition as an Open Water Diver, enabling you to explore the underwater world up to a depth of 18 meters.
