Three coral islands off the northwest coast of Lombok, sitting on the Indonesian Throughflow Current — the warm water highway that makes the Gilis one of the most reliable turtle-spotting destinations on the planet. Water sits between 27 and 30 °C all year, visibility hits 25–30 m in the dry season, and the dive sites are gentle enough for a first-time diver but interesting enough for someone with 100+ logged dives.
Seven dive sites within a 5–20 minute boat ride from our centre. Sites are shared between Trawangan, Meno and Air — we run trips daily from our pier on the east side of Gili T.
Green and hawksbill turtles, max 15 mThe site the island is famous for. A shallow reef topping out at 15 m where green and hawksbill turtles congregate to feed and rest among the coral heads. You'll also see moray eels, pufferfish and schools of damselfish. Perfect for Open Water students and Try Scuba — gentle, shallow, and you'd be surprised if you didn't see a turtle.
White-tip reef sharks at 25 mOne of Gili Trawangan's signature sites and the deepest of the regular dives. White-tip reef sharks rest on the sandy patches at around 25 m, alongside large schools of reef fish, rays and moray eels in the coral bommies. Recommended for Advanced Adventurer divers or confident Open Waters — depth and occasional currents are real. Visibility is consistently great, especially on the morning boat.
Drift over coral, great for night divesA long, gentle coral slope dropping to 24 m, on the north side of Gili T. One of the best all-rounders on the islands: clownfish, green turtles, healthy hard and soft coral, and the occasional cuttlefish. We run it as a drift dive most days, and as a night dive on request — Halik comes alive after dark.
Shallow wreck and reef, beginner-friendlyA small platform wreck on a shallow coral slope reaching 20 m, ideal for beginners and a favourite for Try Scuba students who want their first wreck-ish experience without depth. Turtles, cuttlefish and clouds of tropical fish, all in calm water. Best dived first thing in the morning when visibility peaks.
Wall dive with macro life and bamboo sharksA vertical wall dive between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno, dropping past 18 m. Less crowded than the shallower sites and home to macro favourites — pygmy seahorses, frogfish, ghost pipefish — plus bamboo sharks tucked into the crevices when you're lucky. Suitable for divers with some experience and good buoyancy.
Advanced drift, pelagics and currentsThe advanced-tier site of the Gilis: stronger currents, deeper average depth (20–30 m), bigger marine life. We dive it as a drift along a series of coral pinnacles where pelagics pass through — trevallies, barracuda, occasional reef sharks. Strict experience requirement: certified Open Water with comfortable buoyancy, or Advanced Adventurer.
You can dive Gili Trawangan all year. Water temperature stays between 27 and 30 °C from January to December, currents are mostly gentle, and DPM runs trips every day except in extreme weather. The dry season runs May to October — that's when visibility peaks (often above 30 m), seas are calmest and the manta sightings at Manta Point are most reliable. The wet season (November to April) brings tropical rain — usually in short afternoon downpours — and visibility drops to 15–20 m on average, but diving is still excellent.Turtles: seen year-round at Turtle Heaven, Halik Reef and most reef sites. We can't promise you'll see one on every dive, but most divers do.Manta rays: Apr–Nov at Manta Point. Most reliable May–Oct, when plankton concentrations bring them in to clean and feed.Reef sharks: white-tips at Shark Point year-round, best on the morning boat when they're more active.
The rainy season. Tropical afternoon showers, but diving is fine most days. Visibility drops to 15–22 m due to runoff from Lombok. Fewer divers, cheapest rates, water still 29 °C — bathwater conditions.
The wet season eases and the dry season starts. Manta season opens in April at Manta Point. Visibility climbs back up. May is one of the two sweet spots of the year u{2014} peak conditions, manageable crowds.
Dry season at its best. Calm seas, visibility often above 30 m. July and August are the absolute peak u{2014} dive sites get busy and accommodation books up. Cool nights, perfect days.
The second sweet spot of the year. Same great conditions as Junu{2013}Aug but with fewer divers on the boat. Our favourite window if you want both visibility and quiet dive sites.

Our centre sits on Jalan Ikan Nautilus, a few steps from the harbour on the east side of Gili Trawangan. The team is multilingual (English, Spanish, Italian, German, French), instructors are trained in-house, and the SSI curriculum is our default — PADI is available on request. We've been on the island for more than a decade and we know which dive sites work best depending on the swell and the current.
