Gili Trawangan: A Unique Diving Destination
Located northwest of Lombok, Gili Trawangan is known for its coral reefs, warm waters, and an abundance of marine life that will fascinate you. From reef sharks to turtles and manta rays, this destination offers several unique dive spots for all skill levels. And the best part? It’s available most of the year.
When to Dive in Gili Trawangan?
The best time to dive in Gili Trawangan is from May to October, during the dry season. The sea conditions are usually calmer, and visibility can exceed 30 metres, allowing you to dive in what feels like a giant aquarium full of life. However, diving is possible year-round, as water temperatures rarely drop below 27°C, and rain showers are often limited to specific times of the day.
6 Unique Dive Sites in Gili Trawangan
Here is a list of the most outstanding dive spots in Gili Trawangan. Each offers a different experience depending on marine life, the underwater landscape, and the difficulty level. 1. Shark Point
Shark Point is one of Gili Trawangan’s most famous sites. Located about 25 metres deep, it’s ideal for intermediate and advanced divers. As the name suggests, you’ll find white-tip reef sharks here, along with rays, moray eels, and large schools of reef fish.
Due to the depth and occasional currents, previous diving experience is recommended. Visibility is often excellent, especially in the morning.
2. Manta Point
Manta Point is perfect for those wanting to see majestic manta rays. This site is located between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno, in a shallow area no more than 18 metres deep. Along with manta rays, you’ll also find turtles and parrotfish.

Manta rays are most common from April to November, so plan your visit during these months to increase your chances of seeing them.
3. Halik Reef
Halik Reef is an ideal location for divers of all levels, with a gentle slope descending to 24 metres. This reef is home to clownfish, green turtles, and a variety of hard and soft corals.
It’s a fantastic spot for night dives, where you can observe marine creatures that aren’t typically seen during the day.
4. Bounty Wreck
This dive site is characterised by corals and a gentle slope that reaches 20 metres. It’s ideal for beginners due to its calm waters and shallow depth. You can spot turtles, cuttlefish, and a wide variety of tropical fish.
The best time to dive is early in the morning, when visibility is clearest, and there are fewer divers.
5. Turtle Heaven
Turtle Heaven is known as one of the best places to see turtles in Gili Trawangan. It’s a shallow site with a maximum depth of 15 metres, making it perfect for beginner divers. You’ll find plenty of green and hawksbill turtles, along with moray eels and pufferfish.

Make sure to bring your underwater camera to capture some incredible photos of turtles swimming in their natural habitat.
6. Meno Wall
Meno Wall, located between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno, offers a wall dive where you can explore a vertical reef that drops over 18 metres. Look out for pygmy seahorses, frogfish, and if you’re lucky, bamboo sharks resting in the wall’s crevices.
This site is ideal for divers with some experience looking to enjoy a wall dive in a more tranquil setting.
