Tenerife, the jewel of the Atlantic, the island of eternal spring (and that’s no exaggeration), the most populated of the Canary Islands, is not only famous for its beaches and vibrant nightlife, but also for its impressive dive sites. Few destinations in Europe can rival Tenerife when it comes to diving. Whether you’re a passionate diver or simply seeking a new underwater adventure, Tenerife has a lot to offer. In this article, we will take you through the 7 best dive sites on the island and provide you with an interactive map to help plan your next dive. Let’s make some bubbles!
Why Choose Tenerife for Your Diving Experience?
Why Tenerife and not somewhere else? The answer is simple: Tenerife has it all! From enviable year-round weather to crystal-clear waters offering exceptional visibility, the island is a diver’s paradise. Moreover, its volcanic geography creates unique underwater landscapes, with tunnels, caves, and rock formations that will leave you breathless.
And if that’s not enough, Tenerife’s marine biodiversity is truly impressive, ranging from colourful tropical fish to the elusive angel shark. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, Tenerife has something special in store for you.
7 Unique Dive Sites in Tenerife
We must admit that it was difficult to choose just 7 dive sites because the island is large and the spots are varied and full of charm. However, this is a good starting selection, which you can expand if you contact our DPM Diving school on the island.
1. Montaña Amarilla
This is one of those places that will leave you wide-eyed (though we don’t recommend opening your mouth underwater). Montaña Amarilla is not only stunning above the surface, but its beauty extends below the water too. The yellow volcanic rock walls descend into the ocean, creating an otherworldly underwater landscape.
Prepare to encounter moray eels, curious octopuses, and a variety of small fish hiding in the rock crevices. This is a perfect site for underwater photographers as the contrast between the rock and the blue sea offers unique photographic opportunities.
2. Faro de Punta Rasca
This dive site is for true adventurers. The impressive rock formations and diverse marine life make Faro de Punta Rasca a must-visit location. However, it’s recommended for divers with some experience.

Here, you can swim alongside majestic rays, schools of colourful fish, and, if you’re lucky, even angel sharks.
Due to the currents, it’s advisable to dive here with a local guide who knows the area well.
3. Los Chuchos
The name says it all. This spot is famous for the large number of rays (locally known as “chuchos”) that swim close to divers. Who wouldn’t want to dive among these fantastic animals?
In addition to the rays, you’ll often see moray eels and, on occasion, sharks, adding a touch of excitement to the dive.
If you’re looking for a close encounter with marine life, this is the place for you. Just stay calm and enjoy the show.
4. La Catedral
As the name suggests, this site is like an underwater cathedral. It’s an impressive underwater cavern with natural columns and arches that will make you feel as though you’re in a sacred place.
Inside the cavern, you’ll find a variety of reef fish and small crustaceans hiding in the rocks.

This site is ideal for experienced divers, as it requires good buoyancy and control to navigate inside the cavern.
5. El Bufadero
This is one of those places that looks like something out of a movie. El Bufadero is famous for the bubbles that emerge from the volcanic rock, creating a fascinating visual display.
Although the bubbles are the main attraction, you can also spot octopuses, moray eels, and brightly coloured sponges.
Bring your camera because this is a place you’ll want to remember. The bubbles and natural light create a perfect setting for stunning photos.
6. Puertito de Armeñime
If you love turtles, this is your spot! Puertito de Armeñime is known for being home to a friendly colony of turtles that swim close to divers. Plus, it’s just a short distance from Costa Adeje, where DPM Diving’s centre is located.
In addition to the turtles, it’s common to see rays and parrotfish in the calm waters of this site.

The waters here are calm, making it a perfect site for beginner divers or those seeking a relaxed dive.
7. Túnel de Garachico
For the more adventurous divers, the Garachico Tunnel offers an exciting experience. This underwater volcanic tunnel is a unique place that you must explore.
Inside the tunnel, you’ll find a great variety of fish and some interesting coral formations.
Bring a torch to explore the dark corners of the tunnel and make sure to dive with an experienced buddy.
