SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty at DPM Diving in Koh Phi Phi teaches divers to plan and conduct dives using enriched air mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen. Nitrox reduces nitrogen loading at a given depth compared to standard air (21% oxygen), allowing longer no-decompression limits at moderate depths — a practical advantage on multi-dive days and liveaboards. The course covers theory on oxygen toxicity limits (the maximum operating depth for each mix), gas analysis with an oxygen analyser before every dive, dive planning with enriched air, and the use of dive computers switched to Nitrox mode.

Two open-water dives using Nitrox are included. On completion you receive the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox 32% or 40% certification, internationally recognised and valid for life. The price of 9,000 THB includes full dive equipment, a professional SSI instructor, dive insurance and lunch.

A National Marine Park Fee of 600 THB applies on the day of the dives (paid separately in cash). Prerequisites: a valid Open Water Diver certification or higher. A standard SSI medical questionnaire is completed before water entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nitrox and why would I want it?

Nitrox (enriched air) contains a higher percentage of oxygen than standard air — typically 32% or 40% compared to 21%. At moderate depths (18-30 metres), this reduces nitrogen absorption and extends your no-decompression limit, meaning you can stay at depth longer. It is particularly useful for multiple-dive days or liveaboards where bottom time accumulates across dives.
