SSI Open Water Diver

The SSI Open Water Diver course at DPM Diving in Koh Phi Phi is a three-day programme that takes complete beginners to an internationally recognised scuba certification valid to 18 metres worldwide. No prior diving experience is required, and the certification is for life. Course schedule: Day 1 starts at 9am with the first theory session, followed by a confined-water training session finishing around 1pm.

Day 2 includes a brief class at 11:30am followed by two open-water dives. Day 3 involves two more open-water dives (morning or afternoon, subject to the boat schedule). A written multiple-choice exam at the end of day three completes the course.

Theory and reading material are delivered through SSI MyDiveGuide digital study, accessed before and during the course. The price of 12,900 THB includes the SSI Open Water international lifetime certification, full dive equipment, a professional SSI instructor, dive insurance and lunch. A National Marine Park Fee must be paid separately: 600 THB on the first day of dives and 200 THB on the second day (total 800 THB, paid in cash to park authorities at the pier).

A standard SSI medical questionnaire is completed before the course.

Do I need any experience to take the Open Water course in Koh Phi Phi?

No prior diving experience is required. You must be at least 15 years old (10 for Junior Open Water Diver), able to swim 200 metres and float for 10 minutes, and complete a medical questionnaire before the course starts. The course covers theory, confined-water skills and four open-water dives over three days.
