About the programme
The Try Scuba Diving programme at DPM Diving in Koh Phi Phi is a half-day introductory experience for first-timers who want to experience scuba without committing to a certification course. No prior diving experience is required. The programme begins with a short classroom session covering the basics of scuba equipment (mask, regulator and BCD) and the safety rules you need before entering the water — equalisation, breathing technique and basic hand signals.
You then join the morning or afternoon boat for two dives in the Andaman Sea around Phi Phi, with a professional SSI instructor accompanying you throughout. The maximum depth for the programme is 12 metres. Boat departures: morning 7am to 12pm or afternoon 1pm to 5pm.
The price of 3,600 THB includes two dives, a professional SSI instructor, full dive equipment and lunch. A National Marine Park Fee of 600 THB applies on the day (paid separately in cash to park authorities). A standard medical questionnaire is completed before the session.
Try Scuba does not result in a certification — if you want to continue diving, the SSI Open Water course (three days, 12,900 THB) is the natural next step. Bookings via WhatsApp.
Why try scuba diving in Koh Phi Phi
The introduction runs at Garang Heng, the closest site to the centre at just two kilometres from Tonsai Bay. It is a gently sloping submerged pinnacle between six and seventeen metres, covered in anemones, hard coral and barrel sponges, with a real chance of a leopard shark resting on the sand nearby.
The whole archipelago sits inside a Marine National Park, so the reef is healthy and the fish are used to divers. Water stays between 27 and 30 °C, currents are gentle, and from November to April the Andaman Sea gives 20-30 metres of visibility. The short crossing means you are in the water within twenty minutes of leaving the pier.
Dive sites are chosen on the day according to weather and sea conditions.
