React Right + Rescue Course in Koh Tao
The SSI React Right and Rescue course in Koh Tao covers first aid and four rescue scenario dives over two days. The combined programme costs 12,600 THB.

About the programme
The React Right + Rescue programme at DPM Diving in Koh Tao combines two SSI specialty courses: React Right (first aid and CPR) and Diver Stress and Rescue. Together they form the rescue-level training recognised as a prerequisite for the SSI Divemaster programme and as the equivalent of the PADI Rescue Diver certification. The course runs over two days.
Day 1 begins with a theory class on stress in diving — causes, prevention and early detection — followed by a pool skills circuit covering self-rescue, emergency ascents and assisting a distressed or unconscious diver. Days 2 and 3 involve four open-water scenario dives in which the instructor stages rescue situations for the student to assess and resolve under realistic conditions. The React Right component covers Primary Assessment, First Aid and CPR Skills, Primary Stabilization Techniques, Oxygen Administration in Diving Emergencies and Automated External Defibrillation basics.
The React Right certification is valid for two years and must be renewed to maintain active status. Price: 12,600 THB. Prerequisites: an Open Water Diver certification and a current React Right or equivalent first aid certification (the React Right component of this programme satisfies that requirement when taken as a bundle). The Advanced course is not required: you can go straight from Open Water to Rescue.
A standard SSI medical form is required before the water sessions. Bookings via WhatsApp.
Why do React Right and Rescue in Koh Tao
Rescue scenarios need forgiving water, and the bays on the west coast provide it: Japanese Garden and Mae Haad Bay give you flat sand between five and twelve metres, no current and enough visibility to keep an eye on the whole group while you tow, surface and manage an unresponsive diver.
Warm 28-30 °C water also means the long surface phases, which are the tiring part of the course, never turn into a cold-water problem. The school sits 100 metres from the beach, so the pool circuit, the beach work and the boat all happen within a few minutes' walk, and our hostel is in the same building.
Dive sites are chosen on the day according to weather and sea conditions.
