About the programme
The Refresh programme at DPM Diving in Koh Tao is designed for certified divers (Open Water or higher) who have not been in the water for an extended period and want to rebuild skills and confidence before joining regular fun dives. It is a one-day programme structured around a short theory recap, a shallow skills session and a guided fun dive at a standard Koh Tao site. The programme starts with a brief class covering core scuba concepts — equipment assembly and checks, buoyancy and weight, equalisation technique, and emergency procedures including out-of-air and controlled ascents.
You then complete a shallow dive session in which the instructor walks you through key skills: mask clearing and replacement, regulator recovery, neutral buoyancy and ascent procedures. The second dive is a full fun dive at a regular site to put the rebuilt skills into context with the underwater environment. Price: 2,600 THB, including the instructor, all dive equipment and two dives.
Prerequisites: a valid Open Water Diver certification or higher from any recognised agency (SSI, PADI, SDI and equivalents). A standard SSI medical questionnaire is required before entering the water. Divers returning after more than a year out are particularly encouraged to complete this session — skills degrade between trips, and a short refresher reduces risk while improving the quality of subsequent dives.

Why refresh your diving in Koh Tao
The skills dive uses the shallow sand off Mae Haad Bay, between six and ten metres, where you can rebuild weighting, mask work and regulator recovery on a flat bottom with nothing moving. Then the fun dive goes to Twins, whose two pinnacles top out at five metres, so a long relaxed profile is easy on your air consumption after time out of the water.
Conditions do most of the reassuring here: 27-30 °C, an 18-metre average visibility and almost no current on the western sites. The school is a hundred metres from the beach, so the theory recap, the shallow dive and the boat all fit comfortably into one morning.
Dive sites are chosen on the day according to weather and sea conditions.
